Benefits Advice

One of the easiest ways of taking people out of fuel poverty is to increase the amount of money they have coming into their homes - and it couldn't be simpler for many.

Thousands of people throughout our Region aren't claiming the state benefits they are entitled to - some are missing out on a few hundred pounds a year, others several thousand.

Across the target area, GoWarm estimates that more than a £3,000,000 a year is lying unclaimed and the team plans to do something about it.

As part of the GoWarm project, everyone in the area will be offered a simple benefits check. All you need to do is say yes when the assessor asks if you would like benefits advice or if you are filling in the assessment form on-line, tick the box to request the service. A Benefits adviser will then contact you to see if the qualify and if you do, will help you make the necessary claims.

A successful claim for a benefit will have an added bonus - householders who are on benefits are in a stronger position to qualify for free insulation and other improvements to their property.

Energy Advice

One of the principal aims of the GoWarm project is to reduce energy bills by reducing the amount of energy used in homes throughout the target area.

As well as carrying out insulation and other work, the team will deliver energy advice for people face to face in their own homes. This will be given by the surveyor when he visits to see what other work needs to be done.

The advice will include simple tips like turning heating thermostats down by one or more degrees and installing simple draught proofing.
